Sumac in this case is not a reference to the plant but is actually the name of a town in the Caucasus mountains where the weave was said to have been invented. The chain-stitch character of the weave is highly durable and resilient the foot traffic and has a beautifully textured appearance. We regularly weave our sumac rugs in color tweeds, solids and stripes in any variety of materials.
