Turkish tile art of the town of Iznik is prized for its unique attenuated style of fantastical leaves, flowers and palm fronds. We sought to capture the mystery of that pattern language in Iznik Flower, a design executed in a mixed weave of cut pile wool and silk on a field of flat woven sumac. Our unique use of sumac in a reverse stitch creates the illusion of patina while keeping the integrity of the rug’s underlying structure.
